Research!!!!

Today I began my research on travel magazines. I came across a really interesting article on a Food and Travel website that gave a bunch of statistics on people who read travel magazines. Im super happy I came across this information because getting to know who your target audience is is very important.

What I learned about my target audience:
  • 74% of the readers are ages 26 to 54
  • 60% of the readers are female
  • The readers are usually "innovative and trendsetting opinion-formers"
  • 29% of all the readers eat out more than 6 times a month
  • The average reader take 2-3 oversea holiday breaks every year
With this information, I now know who my content should be directed towards.
I've also began to research the statistics of tourism/ traveling in Atlanta.
I found a recent article that explained that over the past 3 months the demand for hotel rooms has gone up 24.2%.
From this article I also learned that about 51 million people visited the metro Atlanta last year! A majority of these
tourist came from other parts of the United States, the most common were Florida, California, Illinois, and Michigan.
1.2 million tourist came from out of the United States, a majority coming from Germany, Australia, Sweden and
Norway. Georgia earned 61.1 billion dollars from tourism last year.

While researching, I also came across an interesting article called 10 Brilliant Color Psychology Infographics.
This article explained how to use color to capture the attention of a specific audience and how to target a
specific emotion. I definitely plan on incorporating these techniques in my magazine. This article explained
how the color green give a feeling of freshness and is best for businesses that focus on health, wellness, and
landscaping. I also learned that the color red gives a feeling of excitement and adventure as well as a feeling
of hunger. I will definitely keep this in mind while editing my magazine.

The Beginning

Hellooo!! My name is Victoria and I am a junior at Cypress Bay High School. I am super excited to begin working on this project!! For my Foundation Portfolio, I choose to do a Magazine. I felt like this was the best option for me because I love photography and I have lots of experience with using the website Canva, which provides a variety of fonts and layouts. After brain storming for a bit I have decided that I am going to do a Travel Magazine. I thought this would be a cool idea because I am going to Atlanta, Georgia for spring break and I would like to document the best places to eat and visit while in the City.

I have come up with a few alternative ideas as well, just incase my Travel magazine does not come out as I hope it will. So my top 2 alternative plans are:
  • A Pet/Animal Magazine
    • This would feature a variety of pets, I would Interview their owners, as well as feature interesting facts about that specific breed/ pet
  • An Art Magazine
    • I would interview a handful of artist and feature their artwork in the 2 two page spread. I thought it would be cool to talk about the best places to see art in the Miami area as well.
As I mentioned before, those are just my plan B incase my travel magazine doesn't work out!

Final Results!!
