Decisions!

Over the past few days, I have done a lot of thinking about what the topic of my documentary should be. I was very torn between doing a documentary about the effects of the tragic events that took place at Stoneman Douglas, or a documentary about women in sports. To help me decide what to do I decided to weigh out the pros and cons of each. Here's what I came up with:
MSD doc:
Pros
- This doc would feature multiple people from around my school Cypress Bay, therefore I would not have to rely on one person to be the subject of my whole film. This would mean that I would not have to work around another person's schedule.
- I have already created an intro for this documentary that I really like

Cons
- I would need to find a way to go about creating this documentary to make it seem like it could have multiple episodes.
- Since it is a very sensitive topic I would need to come up with questions that mainly focus on the positive changes that have come from this event and avoid questions that could offend or make others uncomfortable.
- Many of the security guards at my school prefer not to be filmed or asked questions, and those who are willing to be interviewed have very busy schedules

Women In Sports doc:
Pros-
- The place I would like to film at has already given me permission to film in the gym
- I have a subject to film who has a very similar schedule to mine
- I have a very good idea of how I would make this documentary into a multiple part series
- I know multiple female athletes that would be willing to be featured on my website
Cons-
- I would have to start completely from scratch
- It might be hard to film in the CrossFit gym because of the lighting

So after weighing out my options, I think I have officially decided that I will be doing the Women In Sports documentary because it is something that I am truly passionate about and interested in.

Brainstorming

Hello!
In my last post I mentioned how I will be creating a documentary for my final media project this year.  I have been really excited to start this project and I have been brainstorming ideas for months. Earlier in the year I created a documentary about the tragic events that took place at Marjory Stoman Douglas Highschool in February of last year, and how these events had a major effect on the security at my high-school, Cypress Bay. I was very happy with how it came out, but there are a few aspects of it that I would improve. I would love to have the opportunity to go back and improve this documentary and make a new one with the same concept but on a much bigger scale.
My other idea was to create a documentary about women in sports. I have a huge passion for sports and I know many female athletes so I thought it would be super cool to create a documentary that focused specifically on them. I myself do cross-fit so that would be the main focus of my five minute part of the documentary. My best friend, Emily, (who does cross-fit with me) has agreed to be the main subject and talk about how the sport makes her feel empowered and has changed her life.
As of right now I am trying to decide between these two documentaries, so I am going to do some research to try to help me make a decision!

Im Back!!

Hello everyone!
My name is Victoria Orellana, and I'm back once again for another media project. I am now a senior in highschool taking AICE Media studies A level and I'm so excited to make yet another project. Last year I created a Magazine called “Escape,” (which I has SO much fun doing) and this year I will be creating a documentary. I am so excited to see how much I have grown as a creator and to see what my final product will be. I have been looking forward to this project all year! Stay tuned because it is going to be an exciting journey!
See you in the next post!
