Decisions!

Over the past few days, I have done a lot of thinking about what the topic of my documentary should be. I was very torn between doing a documentary about the effects of the tragic events that took place at Stoneman Douglas, or a documentary about women in sports. To help me decide what to do I decided to weigh out the pros and cons of each. Here's what I came up with:
MSD doc:
Pros
- This doc would feature multiple people from around my school Cypress Bay, therefore I would not have to rely on one person to be the subject of my whole film. This would mean that I would not have to work around another person's schedule.
- I have already created an intro for this documentary that I really like

Cons
- I would need to find a way to go about creating this documentary to make it seem like it could have multiple episodes.
- Since it is a very sensitive topic I would need to come up with questions that mainly focus on the positive changes that have come from this event and avoid questions that could offend or make others uncomfortable.
- Many of the security guards at my school prefer not to be filmed or asked questions, and those who are willing to be interviewed have very busy schedules

Women In Sports doc:
Pros-
- The place I would like to film at has already given me permission to film in the gym
- I have a subject to film who has a very similar schedule to mine
- I have a very good idea of how I would make this documentary into a multiple part series
- I know multiple female athletes that would be willing to be featured on my website
Cons-
- I would have to start completely from scratch
- It might be hard to film in the CrossFit gym because of the lighting

So after weighing out my options, I think I have officially decided that I will be doing the Women In Sports documentary because it is something that I am truly passionate about and interested in.

Brainstorming

Hello!
In my last post I mentioned how I will be creating a documentary for my final media project this year.  I have been really excited to start this project and I have been brainstorming ideas for months. Earlier in the year I created a documentary about the tragic events that took place at Marjory Stoman Douglas Highschool in February of last year, and how these events had a major effect on the security at my high-school, Cypress Bay. I was very happy with how it came out, but there are a few aspects of it that I would improve. I would love to have the opportunity to go back and improve this documentary and make a new one with the same concept but on a much bigger scale.
My other idea was to create a documentary about women in sports. I have a huge passion for sports and I know many female athletes so I thought it would be super cool to create a documentary that focused specifically on them. I myself do cross-fit so that would be the main focus of my five minute part of the documentary. My best friend, Emily, (who does cross-fit with me) has agreed to be the main subject and talk about how the sport makes her feel empowered and has changed her life.
As of right now I am trying to decide between these two documentaries, so I am going to do some research to try to help me make a decision!

Food!!

Today I went to one of my favorite places to eat in the area, Ceviche Arigato. I definitely rate this place as a 10/10 because the food is just so incredible. I managed to take pictures of a few different plates because my family went as well:

The last picture was definitely my favorite, and the quality came out a bit nicer because my uncle let me use his IPhone 10 and the lighting was a bit better because this was a dish we took home with us. I think that is the picture I will include for my 2 page spread.

Small Changes

I can't believe how fast these past few weeks have flown by! I'm starting to make a few small changes here and there. For example, for my table of contents I changed all the page numbers to make It look as If it were a real magazine. I made sure that the numbers ranged from 50- 100 because that's the average number of pages magazines have. I also began writing up my two page spread. Tomorrow I plan on going to one of the restaurant's im going to include in my magazine to take a few pictures! It's all coming together and I can't wait to see the final project.

More critiques!

Today in class we had another critique session. This time was much more helpful because I have a majority of my magazine done. I showed my group my cover page, and I was very happy with the feedback. They seemed to really like it. One of my classmates pointed out that the the wording above the title “Escape” was a bit had to read because it almost blends with the white background. I am now considering taking that part out. I was also advised to add a barcode on to the cover page. As for the Table of Contents, all of my group preferred the first option much better, so that is now officially my TOC! They also really liked my two page spread but they said the pictures might be a little small, so ill make an effort to fix that. Im super pleased with the feedback from this class. I can’t wait to go back and make a few changes to my magazine now.

The struggle is real...

Here is a little update:
Front cover ✅
Table of contents✅
Two page spread

I am currently having a really hard time with my two page spread. I can’t seem to find a layout that works with the content I plan on putting in my magazine. I’ve began to design a few different layouts, but i'm not satisfied with any of them. Here's what I’ve come up with so far:
I'm going to keep brain storming and trying new layouts, and hopefully I will find something that I like!!

Table Of Contents

I decided to begin creating my table of contents. I went to find some inspiration, because I've never created one before. I came across this article from the website Canva, which is what I’m using to edit. The article was called Designing the Perfect Table of Contents: 50 Examples to Show You How. It was super helpful looking at all the examples that were provided, and It gave me some inspiration.
I came up with 2 layouts

I love both the layouts I came up with. I inorder to decide which one to use I asked a few family members.
They all decided that they liked the first one the best because it is easier to read. I am still not 100%
convinced. I will continue to weigh my options, and decide later.

New Pictures...

A few weeks ago my family and I went to the Miami Boat Show. When we got off the boat I managed to
snap a picture of it. The name of the boat was South Beach Lady (which is perfect for my magazine) and
In the back is the city. That day the weather was amazing, and the water was perfectly blue. I feel like
this picture perfectly captures the ambiance of Miami, which is exactly what I was going for. I have
decided that this picture Is definitely going to be used for the front cover.

This was the first cover page I created but I was not very happy with It. It was a bit plain and boring so I decided to keep trying.
Soooo, after a while this is what I managed to come up with. I am beyond happy, I personally think it looks like a real magazine. I used a bit of yellow because It makes the letters pop and make it a bit more interesting to look at. I also made the picture a bit darker so that the white font was more legiable.
